Unlocking the Mysteries of Exposome and Microbiome

Global Multi-City Longitudinal Exposome Mapping

In light of the findings of our previous work on personal exposures, we are super curious to gain a better understanding of the world of exposures around us at a global scale. We have recently begun the efforts to systematically investigate the dynamics and diversity of exposome in cities around the world. We are currently looking for collaborations with labs in universities, institutes, and hospitals to expand our network. If you are interested, please let me know!

Precision Medicine

The era of precision medicine is upon us with the advent of multi-omics technology. We can now quantify millions of biologically relevant features with respect to an individual organism. This perspective is incredibly powerful when it comes to disentangling the complexity of human diseases because human individuals vary significantly intra- and inter- populations. In collaboration of various hospitals, we aim to use rich datasets produced by the multi-omics profiling to identify the key biological features, such as genes, microbes, and metabolites, that are involved in infection, gut, and lung related diseases. We then explore the use of these biological features for treatments, diagnostics, and prognostic predictions.

Microbiome Data Mining

An enormous amount of metagenomic data in diverse environments have been generated by the continuous efforts of global scientists. These metagenomic datasets provide an outstanding resource of genomic information across domains of life, not just for bacteria or viruses. Beyond taxonomy classifications and general functional annotations, biology-centric and evolution-guided deep metagenomic analyses are still lacking. Integrating with the knowledge from decades of research in the field of microbiology, clinical microbiology, ecology and evolution, we aim to develop new computational methods and dig into the microbiome data and produce new insights and hypotheses to follow up.
